Frequently asked questions

I bought SnapCal Plus on another iPhone — how do I unlock it here?

Open Profile → Settings → Premium → Restore purchases. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase, your subscription unlocks instantly.

The scan keeps saying "Cloud scan isn't available — using on-device". Why?

Either you're offline, or the cloud AI service is temporarily unreachable. The app falls back to Apple's on-device Vision classifier so you can still log meals. Try again in a minute, or check that your iPhone has internet.

Calorie estimates look wrong

AI predictions are estimates — they can be off by 20–30 % even on a good day. Always tap the food name, then "Search manually" to pick the correct entry from the USDA database, and adjust the portion slider before logging the meal. SnapCal is a tracking tool, not medical advice; if you have a medical reason for needing exact macros, talk to a registered dietitian.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → SnapCal Plus → Cancel Subscription. Or, inside the app, go to Profile → Settings → Premium → Manage subscription — that opens the same Apple page. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the SnapCal subscription, and request a refund. Apple makes the final decision.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Profile → Settings → Your data → Delete my account & data, type DELETE to confirm, and we wipe every meal, log, profile field and correction from your iPhone. Uninstalling the app also removes everything immediately.

What about my photos — are they sent to OpenAI?

Yes, when you scan food the photo is uploaded over encrypted HTTPS to our backend proxy, which forwards it to OpenAI's GPT-4o Vision API for analysis. The photo is processed once and is not retained by OpenAI for training. We never store the photo on a server. If you're offline the app uses Apple Vision instead, which runs fully on-device. Full details: Privacy Policy.

Free tier limits — when do they reset?

Every day at midnight, in your local timezone. The Free tier gives you 2 food scans + 1 fridge scan per day. Upgrade to SnapCal Plus inside the app for unlimited scans plus PDF export and 30-day insights.

The app crashed / behaves strangely

Please email us at office@caiostudio.eu with: your iPhone model, iOS version, what you were doing, and (ideally) a screenshot. If it's reproducible we'll patch it in the next release.
