These terms govern your use of SnapCal ("the app"), built by Ionut Danut Cardos ("we", "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to these terms.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use SnapCal on iOS devices you own or control, in accordance with Apple's App Store Terms of Service.
2. Subscription & purchase options
SnapCal offers two auto-renewable ways to unlock SnapCal Plus (the premium tier):
| Plan | Price | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $4.99 / month | Auto-renewable each month |
| Annual | $29.99 / year | 7-day free trial, then $29.99 / year, auto-renewable each year |
Prices shown are US storefront prices; your local price is displayed inside the app and may differ based on your region and local taxes.
- Free trial (Annual only): the 7-day free trial begins the moment you confirm the purchase. At the end of day 7, your Apple ID is charged the Annual price and the subscription renews yearly thereafter. Cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. Any unused portion of the trial is forfeited if you cancel after starting it.
- Auto-renewal: the Monthly and Annual plans automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the displayed price.
- Manage / cancel: manage and cancel your subscription in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or via the "Manage Subscription" button inside SnapCal (Profile → Settings → Premium).
- Payment: all payments are handled by Apple via your Apple ID. We never see or store your payment details.
- Refunds: refunds are handled by Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Restore purchases: tap "Restore Purchases" in the Settings screen to restore a prior purchase on a new device signed in with the same Apple ID.
3. No medical advice
SnapCal is a lifestyle and nutrition tracking tool, not a medical device. The nutrition information, calorie estimates, and portion sizes are approximations based on public databases and AI estimation.
They should NOT be used for:
- Medical decisions
- Managing chronic conditions (diabetes, eating disorders, food allergies)
- Professional dietary planning
- Any use case where precise accuracy is critical to your health
Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for nutritional advice. Use SnapCal at your own risk.
4. Allergies and dietary restrictions
Our recipe database may contain recipes that include common allergens (nuts, dairy, gluten, eggs, shellfish, etc.). We do NOT filter or warn about allergens. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, always verify ingredients yourself before cooking or consuming anything suggested by the app.
5. AI predictions are estimates
SnapCal uses a hybrid AI pipeline to identify food:
- Primary (cloud): your photo is sent over encrypted HTTPS to a backend proxy operated by us, which forwards it to OpenAI's GPT-4o Vision API for identification and nutrition estimation. The photo is processed once and is not retained by OpenAI for training per their API data-usage terms. We do not store your photo on any server — only your device keeps a copy when you save it with a meal log.
- Fallback (on-device): if the cloud call is unavailable (no internet, API outage, etc.), the app transparently falls back to Apple's Vision framework, which runs entirely on your device and transmits nothing.
Predictions from either pipeline are estimates. Calories, macros, and portion sizes are approximations and can be wrong. Always verify what you are logging — tap "Search manually" or adjust the portion slider before tapping Log This Meal.
6. Third-party content
The app includes content from public-domain, Creative Commons, and partner sources:
- Recipes from Wikibooks Cookbook (CC-BY-SA 4.0)
- Recipe photos from Wikimedia Commons
- Nutrition data from USDA FoodData Central (public domain)
- Additional recipes and imagery from TheMealDB.com (credited on each imported recipe)
- Packaged-product barcode lookups via Open Food Facts (ODbL)
Attribution for each source is provided in-app under Settings → About.
7. No warranty
SnapCal is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of the nutrition data, recipes, or AI predictions for any particular purpose.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ionut Danut Cardos shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app.
9. Updates
We may update the app periodically. Updates may change, remove, or add features. You agree that we are not obligated to maintain any specific feature set forever.
10. Termination
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it from your device. We reserve the right to discontinue the app with reasonable notice.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Romania and the European Union, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
